Electricity Consumption and Population Growth in South Africa: A Panel Approach

چکیده
This study investigates the relationship between population growth and electricity consumption in South Africa for period from 2002 to 2021 collected StatsSA. The utilises Seemingly Unrelated Regression model Dumitrescu Hurlin (2012) causality tests analyse variables. Empirical results revealed that there is a negative statistically significant Africa. further reveal one-way running consumption. recommends government policy makers must implement policies aimed at increasing renewable generation match gap demand growing thereby reducing constant loadshedding

Electricity consumption and economic growth: Exploring panel-specific differences
In this paper, we examine the longand short-run dynamics between electricity consumption and economic activities, using panel data of per capita electricity consumption and per capita GDP of 160 countries for the period of 1980–2010, accounting for the degree of electricity dependence and the level of urbanization. Furthermore, in order to capture the differences in this relationship, the full ...
متن کاملThe non-linear link between electricity consumption and temperature in Europe: a threshold panel approach
This paper investigates the relationship between electricity demand and temperature in the European Union. We address this issue by means of a panel threshold regression model on 15 European countries over the last two decades. Our results confirm the non linearity of the link between electricity consumption and temperature found in more limited geographical areas in previous studies. By distin...
متن کاملElectricity consumption and economic growth in India
This paper tries to examine the Granger causality between electricity consumption per capita and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita for India using annual data covering the period 1950–51 to 1996–97. Phillips–Perron tests reveal that both the series, after logarithmic transformation, are non-stationary and individually integrated of order one. This study finds the absence of long-run equil...
متن کاملEnergy Consumption and Economic Growth in South Asian Countries: A Co-integrated Panel Analysis
This study examines causal link between energy use and economic growth for five South Asian countries over period 1971-2006. Panel cointegration, ECM and FMOLS are applied for short and long run estimates. In short run unidirectional causality from per capita GDP to per capita energy consumption is found, but not vice versa. In long run one percent increase in per capita energy consumption tend...
متن کاملDifferential Electricity Pricing and Energy Efficiency in South Africa
By international standards the economy of South Africa is extremely energy intensive with only a few countries having higher intensities. SA’s primary energy use per unit of GDP is amongst the highest in the world The high energy and electricity intensity of the economy partly reflects SA’s resource endowments (in particular the abundance of coal) but is also a function of the historical under-...
